Ethereum homestead release - history written on 14 march 2016 - 19:49

Today we witnessed the release of homestead, the second Ethereum release.

At block 1,150,000 (transaction id: 0x584bdb5d4e74fe97f5a5222b533fe1322fd0b6ad3eb03f02c3221984e2c0b430) ethereum was upgraded to a more stable release with enhanced security features.

The price has been increasing immensely in the last two months so it will be interesting to see if it can hold up, or a correction is imminent. For those who are interested to buy ether there are several strategies one could follow; trading or investing. In case you are interested in trading; a few milestones can be tracked for expected trading activity; new releases, ico’s such as slock.it and digix and adding of the ether to new exchanges, especially Chinese exchanges .

Soon we will know if the homestead release was in fact successful and if some bugfixing is needed.

DIGIX First Ethereum DAO - Plans to launch digital gold platform

Ethereum features a number of interesting startups on top of the ethereum blockchain. Boostvc even stated that they will start accepting ethereum startups, next to bitcoin startups to diversify into the ether ecosystem.

On the buy-ether blog we will put several of these ethereum startups on focus in a number of blog posts. The Ethereum model lends itself for special variant of startup, namely the digital autonomous organisation (DAO) where revenues are automatically shared in real-time.

The first DAO on the ethereum blockchain is DIGIX; a digital gold asset platform that will interchange ethereum tokens with DGX gold tokens; each DGX gold token is backed by 1 gram of real gold. In a later stage other assets will be tokenized too, for example diamonds.

The company is Singapore based and is planning a tight integration with EtherEx to enable real-time decentral crypto currency and crypto asset exchanges. It will be great to be able to do a real-time exchange of your DGX gold tokens to for example bitcoin, without having to rely on a central exchange such as, for example Poloniex, with all associated risks.

Dgx.io is planning a crowdsale in which they offer investors a chance to be a part of dxg and share potential revenues on a quarterly basis. More information can be found on the special crowdsale page. The crowdsale started on 1 march and will last until 28 april. They are scheduling webinars to answer questions relating to the crowdsale and previous webinars can be found on their facebook page.

 

 

 

Ethereum homestead release approaching at block 1,150,000

You’ve all read it by now, the ethereum network is about to be upgraded to its second release. After frontier, which has been running very successfully without downtime since the start of day one, now it’s time for the second release of this successful open source project.

On an ethereum blockchain explorer such as etherchain, you can see which is the latest block:

As you can see the latest block is now around 1,128,140. The block that will ‘activate’ homestead  (1,150,000) is probably due on 14 march.

It will be interesting to see what effect the release will have on the price. Ether (ethereum’s token) is currently trading over 10 euro and has seen spectacular price increase since about 1 month ago.

We are pleased to announce buy ether; an informational website about Ethereum, currently available in two languages; English and Chinese. There is also a Dutch ether kopen version that offers these materials in the Dutch language.

The idea of this website is to provide information and to assist people in downloading the wallet, making transactions, dealing with exchanges and provide semi real-time course information. In addition we will provide an option to purchase and sell ether (ether is the underlying token of the ethereum network) with/ for bitcoin, but perhaps in the future also accepting credit-cards. A token, to clarify is a string of characters that contains value, it kind of functions as money, as it cannot be double-spend.

Our target audience are people that want to get involved and want to purchase some ether as an investment, but don’t know where to start.

There is not much ethereum for dummies material out there so we are glad that we can help. For an outsider, if bitcoin was difficult to grasp, ethereum is outright inaccessible and very tough to digest.
